Lice Prevention

Lice Prevention

Well this is a not so fun subject but if you are a mom with school age kids, you may have had a go around with these nasty little bugs. My 2 older kids are school age and haven’t brought the little creatures home but there was a close call last winter. My then first grader got a note sent home that someone had lice in her class. In our county they are not required to send the child home who has lice, they also do not need to inform the parents that there is an outbreak. The teacher can send a note home though and ours did. Of course my daughters backpack is a mess so I didn’t find the note right away, I actually found out on our community Facebook group and was in panic mode. Not only did this little girl have it in my middle daugher’s class, but her sibling was in my older daughter’s class too. I thought I would for sure be doomed. At this time I didn’t think much about prevention and didn’t know how easy prevention is! I talked to some moms and they recommended Fairy Tales Detangler Lice prevention spray. I bought a two pack off Amazon and started spraying it in their hair daily when I would style it for school. I also would braid their hair and keep it up off their neck. My oldest has the most thick, beautiful hair and if she happened to get lice, it would be nearly impossibly to remove it without some serious treatments. You can use regular tea tree oil in their hair but this stuff also helps with tangles and static so I kill 2 birds with one stone!

I also bought Lice Defense spray from Amazon that I spray on their backpacks when they get home from school. I have them come home and put their backpacks in the laundry room where I spray them down. Then in the winter I have them place their jackets in the dryer on high heat for 30 minutes. These are all prevention tips and not what to do if you actually acquire the buggers. We haven’t yet, fingers crossed but so far we have managed to avoid them and will continue using these tips and tricks until they move out!! I’m hoping more moms can implement this in their every day routine so that we can have less and less breakouts from these creepy crawlies!
