Blackberry Jalapeno Margarita
Happy Friday!! So for my first drink recipe I decided to make something that goes with the holiday this weekend, Cinco De Mayo! We celebrate it every year for my daughter’s birthday with a big bbq of Carne Asada. I usually do regular margaritas but Stephanie requested something different so these babies were created! I love jalapenos but I didn’t always because I was a wuss when it came to heat, now it’s grown on me. In this drink I recommend tasting how hot your jalapeno is first before tossing a bunch in, or you may get a mouth full of heat. If that’s what you’re into, go for it! Also, a lot of factors can change the flavor here, the sweetness of the berries, the ripeness of the limes and oranges and so on. Taste as you go and do little bits at a time. I made this drink 3 times and it was awesome all three! I only make one drink at a time instead of a batch because of the heat, some people like more heat than others.
I created a simple syrup made from stevia. I wanted something that my carb conscious friends and family could enjoy. It seems time consuming but it literally took me 3 minutes. Easy right?! You can totally use agave instead if you would like, it just may change the sweetness since it is a lot sweeter so use a little less and taste test before adding more.
Blackberry Jalapeno Margarita
Ingredients
- 1 ¼ cup stevia
- 2 cups water
- ½ ounce fresh lime juice
- ½ ounce fresh orange juice
- ¼ to ½ of a sliced jalapeno (to taste)
- ¼ cup blackberries (about 5 berries)
- 1 ½ ounces Silver Tequila
- 1 ounce Stevia simple syrup
- Ice
- Pink Himalayan salt for rim if desired
Instructions
- For the simple syrup: Boil 2 cups of water, once boiling, add ¼ cup of stevia and stir until combined. Turn off heat and place in a jar once at room temp. Refrigerated, good for one month.
- Slice jalapeno into rounds and place in a bowl with blackberries. Muddle with a pestle until it is all combined. Around 2 minutes. Do not put in a food processor as the jalapeno seeds will make it bitter and the oils will be released too much making it extremely spicy.
- Put the berry jalapeno mixture into a shaker, combine 1 ounce simple syrup, lime and orange juice and 1 ½ ounce of tequila. Top with ice and shake for 30 seconds.
- Taste test to see if you would like to add more sweet or heat. If it is to your liking, rim your glass with lime juice and salt.
- Fill glass with ice and place a mesh sieve over the glass. Pour in liquid from shaker and let the sieve catch all the seeds and pulp. Garnish with a lime wedge or jalapeno slice if desired.
