Silk Pillowcases – Do they work?

Silk Pillowcases – Do they work?

I’m a side sleeper in every sense.  Try and get me to sleep on my back and well…I won’t sleep.  I’ve even tried surrounding myself with pillows to try and keep myself on my back and I either get hot or push the pillows off of the bed because I feel suffocated.  I would absolutely rather have wrinkles than not sleep on my side.  That’s how strongly I feel about side sleeping.

Silk pillowcases have been the latest trend these days.  Promising to reduce wrinkles and keeping hair healthier.  These are some bold statements for a pillowcase.  I’ve been testing this theory for a while now and here’s what I’ve found.

Firstly, not all silk pillowcases are created equal.  It definitely matters what type of silk your pillowcase is made from.  A high grade 100% Mulberry Silk is what’s important.  This will ensure your pillowcase is great quality as well as extremely soft and smooth.  This will ultimately factor into how little it pulls and tugs on your skin and hair while you sleep.

The biggest difference I noticed initially was with my hair.  I wouldn’t wake up with crazy bedhead and knots.  There are even times I don’t need to re-curl my hair because it held the style from the day before. Mom’s will love that time savings!  My husband sleeps on a silk pillowcase as well and will go to bed with product in his hair.  He used to wake up with half of his hair sticking up, but now, he just runs his fingers through it and it already looks styled.

The next most noticeable difference was my skincare products I put on at night stay on through the whole night and my skin feels more moisturized.  Cotton tends to soak up a lot of product, so when you sleep on a cotton pillowcase, a large portion of your expensive skincare is going to your pillowcase rather than soaking up in your skin.

I’ve found both a splurge and steal 100% Mulberry silk pillowcase that give a whole new meaning to beauty sleep!  They’re so soft and feel great while you sleep and even help keep you cool.  Each come in a variety of colors so you can find one you love or that matches your sheets. There is a slight difference in the Slip Silk Pillowcase’s softness which is why I would say just go for it if you’re looking for a new one.  The Alaska Bear pillowcase is fantastic as well and also super soft and smooth.  I would recommend Alaska Bear if you want to try them out, or if you need to buy several for the whole family.
