Sesame Ginger Crusted Ahi Bowls

Sesame Ginger Crusted Ahi Bowls

Meals I can eat out of a big bowl are easily my favorite.  I imagine it’s because you get a bit of everything in each bite.   The perfect bite each time…yes, please!  This Ahi bowl is no exception.  The colors are so vibrant and beautiful so if you’re someone who eats with their eyes, then eat away my friend.

It’s no secret that the Firecracker Chicken Wings are my jam.  I swear I could put that darn sauce on a shoe and eat it.  It’s the perfect sauce for this bowl because it pairs so well with the Ahi.  It’s so fresh and light, yet filling.  Not to mention it’s quick since Ahi sears up in a matter of a few minutes. It’s the perfect salad for spring or summer.

  • 2 cups cooked quinoa, optional
  • 5 oz mixed greens
  • 1 cucumber, sliced then sliced again into quarters
  • 1 red pepper, sliced
  • 2 cups purple cabbage, shredded
  • 2 avocados, chopped
  • 1 jalapeno, thinly sliced on an angle, optional
  • 1 cup cilantro, roughly chopped
  • 4 green scallions, thinly sliced on an angle
  • Sriracha or chili paste, optional

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl follow steps 7-9 of the Firecracker Chicken Wings to make the sauce. Set aside.
  2. If using quinoa, cook as directed. I like to let it cool to room temp so it doesn’t wilt the greens.
  3. Pat the Ahi dry. rub the ginger and garlic pastes on each side of the tuna.  On a small plate place the sesame seeds and salt and pepper.  Press the tuna into the sesame seed mixture to coat each side.
  4. Heat oil in a pan on medium-high heat until hot but not smoking. Place the Ahi in the pan.  Sear on each side for 2-3 minutes (rare), 4-6 minutes (medium), using tongs to grab the sides and flip being careful not to remove the crust.  Set aside on cutting board to rest for 3-5 minutes.
  5. Prepare your veggies white Ahi rests.
  6. Slice tuna against the grain (knife should be at a 90⁰ angle to the grain)
  7. In large bowls add the quinoa, if using, to the bottom of the bowls. Top with mixed greens.  Assemble veggies and sliced Ahi to your desire on top of mixed greens.
  8. Drizzle sauce over top and chili paste, if using.
