Healthy Food for Your Fur Babies

I became a fur mom 7 years ago to two amazing boys, Rex and Carter.  I seriously love these pups like they’re kids.  Since healthy food is so important to our family, I immediately went on a search for how to keep these guys healthy and happy and living as long as they possibly could.  That meant finding food for them that not only worked for them, but for my husband and I too. 

Initially, we couldn’t find anything that really worked for both of them.  Rex is a sensitive guy when it comes to food, much like his personality.  He is intolerant to grains and picky as hell!  Carter will eat just about anything and everything.  So really the challenge here was finding something that Rex would and could eat.

This was a much bigger struggle than anticipated.  We tried different kibbles, but Rex started losing weight because he would never finish his food, and Carter started gaining weight because he would eat his and what Rex left behind.  Uhhh.  Kibble was out.

Then came the raw food diet with canned pumpkin to firm up their poopies.  That worked well for them for about a year, then Rex would pick out only the meat and eat his pumpkin, and leave everything else behind.  Carter then started doing to same. This meant they weren’t getting all of the nutrients they needed and again losing weight.  These dogs ya’ll.

I came across The Honest Kitchen.  It’s 100% human grade food that’s dehydrated.  All you have to do is add warm water.  We tried the grain free turkey (Embark), the boys loved it.  It smells so good too!  Then we tried the chicken (Force) and once again the boys loved it.  Yay!  But I knew better than to get too excited this early in the game.  Was there to be a point in the next year where they decide they don’t like it anymore?  Noooooo!!!

We’ve been using it for years and still going strong!

• Both boys love all of the flavors, which is great because we can switch it up so they don’t get bored.
• They smell like actual dinners humans would make and eat.  This makes me feel good about what they’re eating.
• No more stomach issues or gas for Rex.
• Both pups finish all of their food and are so excited for breakfast and dinner.

If you guys are on the hunt for the best dog or cat food.  I tried EVERYTHING before landing on The Honest Kitchen.  Now I can’t imagine using anything else.
